How to verify your Pfizer bacteriostatic water is authentic
Pfizer (Hospira) bacteriostatic water is the FDA-regulated and Health Canada-authorized product trusted in clinical settings. If you bought a vial labeled as Pfizer, here is how to confirm it is genuine.

What every genuine vial has
- The Hospira name on the label
- The Pfizer logo
- A lot number
- An expiry date
- NDC number 00409-3977-03
- The text "Bacteriostatic Water for Injection, USP"
Lot verification
You can verify the lot number by contacting Pfizer directly through their medical information line. A genuine lot number ties the vial to a specific manufacturing batch with full traceability.
Vial construction
The vial is a semi-rigid plastic flip-top container, not glass. The plastic is fabricated from a specially formulated polyolefin — a copolymer of ethylene and propylene — confirmed safe per USP biological standards. If the vial you received is glass, it is not the Pfizer Hospira 30 mL product.
Solution appearance
The solution should be clear and colorless with no visible particles. The pH is approximately 5.7, within a range of 4.5–7.0.
Red flags
- No lot number on the label
- No manufacturer name
- No NDC number
- Glass vial instead of plastic
- Cloudy or discolored solution
- Label that says "for research use only" with no DIN or NDC
Marketplace caution
Many sellers on general marketplaces sell unbranded bacteriostatic water with no verifiable manufacturer, no lot tracking, and unknown manufacturing conditions. These products may not meet USP standards. Pfizer (Hospira) is currently the only FDA-regulated and Health Canada-authorized manufacturer of bacteriostatic water for injection, manufactured in cGMP-certified sterile facilities.
